Celine Cremer: Missing backpackers last photo revealed

Publish date: 2024-08-04

The last Facebook post of a backpacker who has gone missing in Tasmania has been revealed.

No one has seen or heard from Celine Cremer since June 16.

Police hold grave concerns for the Belgian national after her car was found “unattended” at the entrance to the Philosopher Falls Track, a remote walking trail, near Waratah on Tuesday.

In her final Facebook post Celine shared a picture of herself standing atop Mount Wellington with the caption: “Un petit diable en Tasmanie” (A little devil in Tasmania).

Celine’s sister Amelie said she had plans to travel to Victoria via the Spirit of Tasmania ferry on June 21.

Following the release of a missing persons report by the police on Monday evening, Celine‘s family and friends have taken to social media to make a heartfelt appeal.

“We have not heard from my sister since June 16, 2023. She was on a road trip to Tasmania before joining (sic) Victoria by ferry on June 21,” Amelie wrote on Facebook.

Amelie confirmed that the registration and car matched the vehicle discovered by the police.

“If you have any information on my sister, please contact me directly or my mum Ariane,” she said.

“Please share this post widely and help us find her.” ️

Ariane, Celine‘s mother, shared the alert from Tasmania Police, and numerous friends and family members expressed their support in the comments section.

Friend Maxime Gilroy mentioned that they had not seen Celine for “several days” and that her family is deeply worried.

“A friend of mine hasn’t given any news for several days and her family is very worried. If anyone has any information, please contact the authorities,” Ms Gilroy wrote on social media.

Since the discovery of Celine‘s vehicle on Tuesday — a white Honda CRV with the registration E40TF — search and rescue teams have been conducting searches in the vicinity.

Police have revealed that the woman had planned to travel to the West Coast of the state.

Philosopher Falls, situated approximately nine kilometres from the town of Waratah in the North West region, is a grade 3 hiking trail surrounded by dense rainforest.

The car park where Celine‘s vehicle was found is located roughly 500 meters up an unpaved road.

The hiking trail was established in 2010 as part of a $1,000,000 funding initiative to boost tourism in the area, as mentioned on the Waterfalls of Tasmania website.

Enthusiastic hikers assert that the previous Philosopher Falls trail is now inaccessible.
