Chick-fil-A announces operator, mid-2022 opening for Maui location | News, Sports, Jobs

Chick-fil-A has selected a California restaurant industry veteran to run its Maui location, which is set to open in mid-2022, slightly delaying the springtime opening it had originally planned.

The roughly $3 million restaurant broke ground over the summer on a 7,500-square-foot parcel at the Puunene Shopping Center in Kahului and is expected to be the first Chick-fil-A in Hawaii, a company spokesperson said in July.

Plans call for a full dining room with double drive-thru and outdoor dining patio. The restaurant is anticipated to employ about 120 people.

The operator of the Maui location will be Sean Whaley, a native of San Bernardino, California. Whaley was the first in his family to graduate from high school and put himself through college at California State University, San Bernardino, according to a news release. His past business and restaurant experiences include managing a shave ice truck and, most recently, owning and operating a delicatessen in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

Whaley will move to Maui with his wife, Danielle, and their three children.

Chick-fil-A also announced operators and opening dates for three locations on Oahu, including:

• Kurt Milne, operator-select for Chick-fil-A Ala Moana Mall, slated to open in late 2022.

• Zane Dydasco, operator-select for Chick-fil-A Makiki, slated to open in late 2022.

• Spencer Goo, operator-select for Chick-fil-A Kapolei Parkway & Kualaka’i, slated to open in late 2022/early 2023.

Founded in 1967, the Atlanta-based fast-food chain has more than 2,600 restaurants in 47 states as well as Washington, D.C., and Canada, according to Chick-fil-A’s website.
