Michael Strahan to Appear in Magic Mike XXL

Publish date: 2024-08-30

Michael Strahan is taking his stripper dance moves to the big screen.

The Live With Kelly and Michael co-host revealed Monday morning that he’ll make an appearance in the Magic Mike sequel, set to hit theaters July 1, 2015.

Longtime viewers of Live know that Strahan isn’t shy when it comes to stripping down. In 2012, the then-guest-host performed a spontaneous dance — complete with tear-away pants — during an appearance by Magic Mike star Channing Tatum (watch the video below). A year later, after Strahan was selected as the show’s permanent co-host alongside Kelly Ripa, Tatum visited the show again and formally invited Strahan to appear in the movie, titled Magic Mike XXL.

The sequel, which began production several weeks ago, catches up with the group of male strippers at the center of the first movie.

Along with Tatum, original stars Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer and Gabriel Iglesias are set to return for the sequel. (Matthew McConaughey is not reprising his role.) Amber Heard and Jada Pinkett Smith also have joined the sequel’s cast.

Gregory Jacobs is directing the sequel from a script by Tatum and Reid Carolin, who wrote the first movie.

Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh is returning as editor and cinematographer (using his pseudonyms Mary Ann Bernard and Peter Andrews, respectively).

In addition to his Live duties, Strahan reports for ABC’s Good Morning America and is an analyst for Fox NFL Sunday.
